In memoriam: Jim Davis

This is another announcement carrying some sad news. This will mean much more to those who were members during our earlier years than it will to those who have joined more recently.  In playing her forever-role of trying to stay in touch with all former members of the CWFMNY, Phyllis learned that Jim Davis, former CWFMNY fellow-founding-member as well as the creator and sole funder of our William Henry Seward Award for Excellence in Civil War Biography, passed away in Fredericksburg on 9/11/2024, yes, over a year ago. Jim had left New York years ago to relocate to Fredericksburg, where he remained very active in just about every history group in the area, and we had not heard from him for probably the past two years.

A photo and belated obituary can be found here: https://www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/fredericksburg-va/james-davis-11992093

Because of the important role that Jim played in giving our group a strong start in 2009,  and bringing some of the best known CW authors/speakers to our midst as winners of that award, I'm certain that a fitting tribute to Jim will be organized in the near future.
